Life Beyond Cancer Retreats

We wish to recognize:

  • Susie Leigh, RN, BSN
  • Robert Brooks, MD and
  • Pamela J. Haylock, PhD, RN

for conceiving and implementing the Life Beyond Cancer Retreats. They gave us a vision and a name upon which to journey together.

The Life Beyond Cancer (LBC) Retreat is the brainchild of Susie Leigh, Bob Brooks, and P. J. Haylock. In 2000, cancer survivors were brought together to discuss survivorship issues, provide education on healthy survivorship and develop advocacy programs. In the following years, the retreats focused on physical, emotional, and spiritual issues related to wellness during and after cancer treatment. Participants experienced a series of lectures, workshops, and group activities. Alumni have returned to their sponsoring practices and communities with a willingness to become involved in grassroots projects supporting patients and families affected by cancer.

While the Life Beyond Cancer Foundation has made significant progress in organizing a national effort to support survivors through use of their community-based oncology practices, we regret due to limited funding, we regret to announce the suspension of annual Life Beyond Cancer Retreat.

Because the need for this unique venue for cancer patients and their providers to address the everyday challenges of survivorship remains significant, we are delighted to be able to share the many wonderful presentations and lessons learned from our past participants both on our website and our new LBCF YouTube Channel.

In addition, through its volunteers, the Life Beyond Cancer Foundation will continue to provide tools in survivorship through webinars on cancer survivorship and other survivorship initiatives. We will continue advocating for healthy lifestyles, provide programming and support beyond the physical needs of cancer patients – aiding our families, friends and neighbors with financial, emotional and spiritual support.
